| | Director Marshall Herskovitz (Thirty Something, My-So-Called-Life) brings his cheeky entertaining approach to the sexy costume drama genre and it works, despite some anachronisms along the way. Handsome period drama full of sex and nudity, set in 16th century Venice, about a beautiful young woman (Catherine McCormack, best known as Mel Gibson's bride in Braveheart) who falls in love with a dashing Venetian senator (Rufus Sewell). Unable to marry above her station, she learns from her mother (Jacqueline Bisset) to become a courtesan, using her powers over wealthy men to live a luxurious life. Great fun, though turning darker when plague and the Inquisition get involved. Widescreen Anamorphic - 2.35 and Full Frame - 1.33. Dolby Digital 5.1 - French. Dolby Digital 5.1 - English |
