NIECES OF THE FEMALE COLONEL (also titled Come Play with Me 2 and Secrets of a French Maid) is definitely a change of pace for Dietrich as this movie is much more erotic in nature and less exploitive. Karine Gambier plays Frau Oberst who has 2 young nieces who are very open with their sexuality. She hopes to find adequate lovers for her nieces and along the way finds herself in some precarious sexual situations. After a series of sexual encounters between just about everyone at the estate, the Countess (France Lomay) drops by for a party where the nieces announce their wedding intentions. This film includes much of the same cast as GEFANGENE FRAUEN (ISLAND WOMEN) and is another recommended DVD for Lahaie and Dietrich aficionados. This DVD has been released directly by Erwin Dietrich and has been remastered directly from the original negative. | | | Brigitte Lahaie and her bevy of blond friends return for this installment of Erwin Dietrich's soft-X "Six Swedes" series where the girls find themselves working as gas station attendants. Other than that, our Swedes lives seem about the same as in the first two movies, seldom encountering another person with whom they do not promptly begin having sex. The obsession with a pedal powered piston-driven that comes up through a bicycle seat that dominated Six Swedes on Campus continues here with an exercise bike dildo machine for indoor use that each girl rides in turn for the finale. The SWEDES films are part of a distinctly European post-porno soft-X sub-genre featuring little male nudity, but incessant opened-legged female nudity including the occasional genital close-up. (Tinto Brass, operating in the same market, made similarly "beaver" heavy films with no penises, in his movies equipping the men with life-like plastic replicas to circumvent the rules) By 1979-1980 explicit sex films had been around for quite a while. In fact, star Lahaie had made about 30 XXX movies before these tamer SWEDE movies. But these were made to be exhibited in non-porno movie theatres! I am going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing not one single American non-XXX movie was made in 1980 that featured such explicit nudity. Such a film couldn't be exhibited anywhere in America except in a porno theatre and no porno theatre was going to start screening soft core movies. Throughout America and Europe everyone considered MIDNIGHT COWBOY a mainstream movie for adults and considered DEEP THROAT a porn movie. But the line separating those two classes of film was drawn quite differently in the two markets, so SIX SWEDES or Tinto Brass movies were mainstream movies for adults in Europe but de facto porn movies in America. As is ALWAYS the case, censorship leads to more perversion. Europe left open a marketplace niche for soft-x seeking adults. America closed that niche by forcing sexploitation movies out of regular theatres. Result: Soft X movies were no longer made in America and any Americans seeking out sexier movies were driven directly to XXX.
