Paul Morrissey and Andy Warhol

In the 1960s Paul Morrissey was in charge of the Warhol studio, working to make Andy Warhol a brand name for movies and music. (He was behind the Warhol connection with The Velvet Underground and Nico.) After 1967 Morrissey took over the production, direction and distribution of all films the Warhol studio produced. Hence most of Morrissey's films were initially released as "Andy Warhol's Frankenstein," "Andy Warhol's Flesh," etc., and many people assumed Warhol made them. Of all the underground directors of the early 1970s the movies of Morrissey and John Waters have proved most durable because they share a vicious comedic approach and outlandish sexual themes.

Directed by Paul Morrissey. Last and most accomplished of the brilliant Warhol/Morrissey/Dallesandro trilogy (with TRASH and FLESH). Andy Warhol meets SUNSET BOULEVARD in this hot and heavy tale of an unemployed actor (Joe Dallesandro) taking up with a faded star (Sarah Miles) Dallesandro's beauty is essential to selling the emotional weight of Miles' traumatic role-reversal, from former object of desire to vulnerable victim of her passion for the younger man.
