PASSION IN HOT HOLLOWS (1966) This manufacturer's description is a bit overheated for a movie that's not very explicit, but these early Sarno films really are sordid:

"Norma Sue and her punk paramour, Parker (a "stud bull"), arrive in her hometown of Hot Hollows intent on corrupting its citizenry. They converge on the ramshackle inn owned by Norma Sue's widowed and sexually repressed sister Jean, their primary target. Meanwhile, local slacker Billy Joe romances impoverished young immigrant Anna. Billy Joe's unsatisfied cocktail-hostess wife, Linda Lu, locks loins with lanky Luke Herman, his best friend, in a nearby barn. Later, Billy Joe convinces the naive Anna to turn tricks for the locals. Back at the inn, Parker and Norma Sue seduce hot-to-trot hostess Linda Lu. To break down Jean's resistance, Norma Sue appeals to her latent voyeurism: while watching her sister and Parker balling in her barn, Jean feverishly caresses her own body in one of renowned director JOE SARNO's most erotically-charged sequences."

Disc 1: VAMPIRE ECSTASY (1974) aka VEIL OF BLOOD Erotic horror movies have to decide whether it's horror with erotic elements or eroticism with horror movie elements. Veil of Blood is the rare double-threat; primarily erotic but functions so well as a gothic horror film that in some locales it was released with most nudity cut out as a straight-up horror movie. Funny seeing Sarno's pet theme-a young woman enters a complex household-in a real castle full of vampire women. Pretty young virgin Helga (Marie Forså) arrives at a castle in Germany. Deep under the castle, naked women led by Wanda the evil lesbian perform rites with phallic candles and display their disdain for clothing. With Nadia Henkowa and Anke Syring.

"Supernatural and super-sensual goings-on in a creepy castle in modern-day Bavaria as a coven of witches summon the bloodthirsty and erotic spirit of a long-dead female vampire. Disc 2: GIRL MEETS GIRL (1974) aka BIBI Directed by Joe Sarno. Probably the best lesbian themed sexploitation film. Forsa tears it up as Bibi, a student who quickly evolves from naïf to sexual predator, as one-by-one she seduces all of the women (and men) in a large household. It's rare in a non-Sarno sexploitation movie to see the emotional damage an amoral young bisexual woman just playing around can do to more mature committed lesbians. Would make An amusing double bill with THE BAD SEED.

Bibi: The Erotic Adventures of A Student Abroad "A True Story based upon the recently discovered diary of a young Swedish woman" From Joseph W. Disc 3: BUTTERFLIES (Lifterskan) (1974) In my opinion, the greatest soft-x movie. Most strong sub-XXX movies are either people pretending to have sex or an existing XXX film edited down to softcore. Only Sarno explored the possibilities of having the cast really doing "it" but filming it soft-x; an artistically profound but commercially doomed approach. The lengthy Forsa/Eric Edwards sex scene is the best sex scene in any movie and, since they are quite obviously really having sex, a triumph of method acting. Forsa's orgasmic responses are played for the camera but clearly real. (When an actor can cry on cue the tears are real.) Eric Edwards recollections (from an interview) are instructive:

"My first European movie was for Joe Sarno. In Butterflies I starred with Harry Reems and Maria Forsa. I found it a great joy to be flown to Europe, put up in a hotel and get paid to have sex also. Those were soft core films though I couldn't help myself with Maria. I did it hard anyway. Maria and I had a fling. It was wonderful. She was just my style. Whenever I'd go back to Europe, we couldn't help ourselves. We screwed everywhere - out in the bushes, in the Jacuzzi, anywhere we could, even in dangerous places where you could get caught such as in a public pool where people could walk in any time. We'd do it five or six times a day. Those were my good ol' days."

Deep Throat Part 2 (1974) has a weird back-story. Joe Sarno, one of the very best erotica directors of all time, did a few XXX projects in the 1970s. He was hired to make the DEEP THROAT sequel and it was shot as a regular XXX film. Then, as with FLESH GORDON, everyone realized they could make more money cutting it down to an R-rating and releasing it nationally. So DEEP THROAT II was released as a softcore film. All the XXX footage was subsequently stolen, so all that exists of the film is the release print, presented here in excellent quality. The overall production is just what one would expect from Sarno. It's handsome. Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems reprise their roles from the original, joined by sex-film stalwarts like Andrea True, Jamie Gillis, Marc Stevens and Tina Russell. If the IMDB is to be believed popular 1990s comic Judy Tenuta (the self-proclaimed "goddess" with the accordion) plays, at eighteen, one of the office girls.

Also, Linda Lovelace for President (1975) (released in England as "Hot Neon") a trying-too-hard camp cash-in on her notoriety directed by TV hack Claudio Guzman (Far-Out Space Nuts, Partridge Family, etc..) with a freak-show cast including Linda Lovelace playing herself, Fuddle Bagley (what a name!), Micky Dolenz (of The Monkees), Scatman Crothers, Robbie Lee and poor Vaughn Meader (who had the best-selling comedy album of all time until Steve Martin came along.) The movie is full of utterly hollow political symbolism and insincere counter-culture references. This is a must-have for aficionados of appalling psychotronica. Since this contains two full length R-rated sexploitation features I am cross-filing it in American Sexploitation. But because an XXX movie manufacturer produces the disc the bonus material is hard-core, including some terrible grainy old Linda Lovelace loops and miscellaneous XXX trailers. So you are forewarned. I am delighted to note that this company did not spoil the package by including any Lovelace loop material that would cause me to not carry the package at all. (She did some notoriously nasty loop work, but it's not presented here.

Sarno films are heavily female-centric, and his women were strong, desirous and just plain naughty, and they got what they want! Blending thrilling "Peyton Place" melodrama with scandalous 'true story' headlines torn from the New York City tabloids of his time, Sarno's long-lost, 1975 erotica cult classic, Abigail Leslie is Back in Town, stars acclaimed performers Rebecca Brooke, Jennifer Wells, Eric Edwards, Jamie Gillis and 'B' favorite Sonny Landham (48 Hours, Predator).

When seductress Abigail Leslie (Sarah Nicholson) returns to her old fishing village hometown, it sends a sexual tidal wave through the small community. Abigail is known for her voracious appetite for all things carnal. Her homecoming has resparked the passions and lust that smolder beneath the town's façade of propriety and the men and women of Baypoint are thrilled at the nonstop adulterous fun that's in store. Abigail's longtime girlfriends regret the prodigal daughter's sudden return, especially Priscilla, whose husband Gordon (Jamie Gillis) has had a running affair with her. But quicker than you can say "catch of the day," everyone is knocking on Abigail's door for an unforgettable night, or day, of lesbian eroticism and swinging orgies. Whether it's handyman Chester (Eric Edwards), sexy Aunt Drucilla, tasty young Alice Anne, stud Bo, or lusty pals Tracy and Lila, or any combination thereof, you can bet Abigail will be ready, willing and able to throw in the line and get wet!

The original release of BUTTERFLIES (Sarno's directors cut) is technically hardcore in a brief glancing way. The actors were actually having sex but the mechanics of things were not shown graphically. Then a XXX edit was released for exhibition in American adult theatres with explicit insert shots done with a Forsa body double. This new DVD release is from the company that has the negatives and the quality is MUCH higher than any previous home video release.

Though all of Forsa's genital close-ups in the XXX version are actually a body double, it's an excellent match for her body. And the matching of poses, costumes, settings and lighting are extraordinary. The actors (Eric Edwards and Harry Reems) are used in the inserts, which certainly helps polish the illusion. Since the inserts are shot with the same male actors in the same settings and the costumes match perfectly it seems likely that the inserts were shot at the same time as the original footage.

In general, the original soft version is a superior film, but there is nothing much more entertaining than watching both versions and comparing them. When hardcore footage is inserted into a softcore film, the running time of the sex scene in question generally stays the same, because the soundtrack is not edited - too complicated. As a result, Marie Forsa's unbelievable moans and cries persist through the hardcore shots, and one should NEVER underestimate the erotic power of sound. Basically, you cannot go wrong with either version, and fortunately this DVD set contains both.

Walter is searching for traces of a prior civilization that inhabited the area, and he and his sultry assistant Anna are making little progress.that is until professor and student decide to dig a little deeper and discover one another - several times over. Although Laura catches their affair in full view, she has other thoughts on her mind that might lead her body and sensual passions astray. Her long-time friend Hanni - an exquisite nymph with whom she shared every conceivable encounter when the two of them went to school together - is visiting the mainland, and a rekindling of orgiastic ecstasy easily awaits. But a sudden blooming attraction to the naïve, buttoned-up Anna convinces Laura that she must teach her husband's lover all she needs to know about forbidden female pleasures.
