| The presentation in these sections is unique, as far as I know. It's tasteful. I don't think classic adult films are corrupt or shameful. If I did, I wouldn't carry them. I envision the adult film fan as someone who likes the adult film genre, not as a feeble-minded compulsive who needs to be degraded to separate her from her money. Any mature adult interested in classic adult films already knows they are sexual entertainments. In the world today there is nothing novel about sex films, so there's no reason to scream about the degraded moral condition of the actresses, or who takes how many inches of what where. A mature person can have a wholesome interest in adult movies, just as surely as a mature person can have a wholesome interest in sex with her or his spouse. Almost everyone is interested in sex. It does not, however, follow that everyone is interested in descriptions of films that read like they were transcribed from a bathroom wall. As far as I'm concerned, sex is not intrinsically nasty or shameful. Women are not all "sluts" and "whores." And adult feature films from the 1970s and 1980s are not freak-show attractions. They are, unlike most modern videos, erotic movies. They are not the best movies ever made, but they are most assuredly the best adult movies ever made. So I treat the movies, the directors and the actresses—and by extension the customer—as worthy of a little respect. If that suits your tastes, I appreciate your patronage. My approach is an utter commercial failure, of course, but somebody has to do it—those windmills aren't going to tilt at themselves. |
