| Once upon a time in the 18th century a beast lived in the woods of an aristocratic estate. And this beast, possessed of a giant phallus and an insatiable lust, set upon the beautiful young lady of the house. Two centuries later, the tale of the beast would return in the dreams of an American heiress contracted to carry the male descendant of the same crumbling aristocratic family and their secret. The Beast is a controversial erotic reworking of the Beauty and the Beast. Forbidden for 25 years, and now available in the uncensored version. This erotic fable originally part of the Immoral Tales, was put aside due to it's controversial subject and later transformed into a full feature film, which became Borowczyk's erotic masterpiece. BEAST, THE (LA BETE) (Uncut US DVD) (1975) Directed by Walerian Borowczyk. Our very favorite erotic film (and perhaps favorite fantasy film too) is finally available on American format DVD, and it's UNCUT. The Beast is Borowczyk's masterpiece. The original La Bete – a 17 m. short which was to be one of the vignettes in Immoral Tales – almost ended Borowczyk's career. When screened in the UK in 1971 it was condemned as pornography and prompted a nearly universal critical reaction of shock, disgust and contempt. Odd indeed, since the film was a charming and often comical hybrid of feminist fable and Roadrunner cartoon. Cest la vie. Stung, Borowczyk didn't include La Bete in Immoral Tales, and instead made that short the centerpiece of this 1975 feature film which combines black humor, graphic sexuality, horror film conventions and a lyrical sense of fantasy to create the Citizen Kane of insane cinema. Borowczyk expands upon his original theme, which is that women are powerless only to the degree that they are sexually repressed, and presenting the female orgasm as one of the most powerful and deadliest forces in nature! English language. Starring Sirpa Lane and Lisbeth Hummel |
